A training workshop on Science Communication - “Enhancing Science Communication for better Dissemination of Research Results in Africa” was organized by NASAC through funding support from The Global Network of Academies- IAP.
The workshop took place on 18-19 June 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. There were 23 participants all drawn from a pool of young scientists involved in different science disciplines from over 15 African countries.
The objectives of the workshop were met and they were:
- To avail a platform to discuss successes and challenges in the uptake of research findings by those outside the scientific community;
- To enhance their skills to become effective science communicators; and
- To provide them with a forum to explore networking opportunities.
Overall, the workshop which was a success aimed at advancing Science Communication by training young scientists on innovative ways of communicating the importance of science to the general public, policymakers and the media.
